A teaching position with Zamenhof.net offers distinct advantages and challenges when compared to those of an ordinary ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching job. We feature mostly 1-on-1 lessons but we also offer small classes of two to six highly motivated adult students. Our students usually have professional backgrounds and wish to improve their English skills in order to increase their competitiveness in the marketplace. We therefore encourage teachers to provide a professional and energetic learning environment in our virtual classrooms. Our teaching methods focus on strengthening the student's conversational and listening abilities through discussion practice and question/answer exercises.

Students are evaluated before being matched with a teacher. Most of the time, students buy a package of 8, 12 or 20 lessons. These lessons are distributed over a period of one month (twice a week, three times a week or every business day).

1- The form
First, please fill out ALL the requested fields in the form below. We will then consider your application and send you an email with our answer shortly.

2- The answer
If your qualifications meet our requirements (resume, availability, etc.), we will contact you via email to organize two test lessons of 25 minutes each with real students. We will send you an email with 2 different time suggestions, their contact information and the login/password of a Skype account. We will wait for your confirmation and both students will wait for your call.

3- Prepare for the test lessons
Both students will wait for your call on a landline phone or on a mobile phone. You will have to use the Skype account that we will provide you with (with Skype credits on it).

4- Test lessons:
During your test lessons, five things will be considered:

1. 1- Punctuality (it's really important that you call on time – if you can't reach the student, you must send us an email at info@Zamenhof.net.com)
   
2. Professionalism (You should be able to correct the student's mistakes and explain the correct rules of grammar.)
   
3. Preparation (You should have a plan for the lesson so as to avoid long silences.)
   
4. Systematic (Your lessons should not improvised; you should follow a teaching line that the student can understand.)
   
5. Sound quality (make sure that your setup is correct – you can test your sound with “Skype test call”).
   
6. The result If everything goes smoothly, we will send you an email confirmation of  your acceptance to work for us. We will then create a teacher's account for you and send you a default password (the login will be your email).
   In the teacher's panel there is a button called “instructions” - you should click that button and read the entire document before the first lesson. This document covers every aspect of the work and responsibilities of a teacher at Zamenhof.net.

The template can aslo be edited even after you have filled in your information; if you have an appointment at the dentist Friday at  6pm on a precise date, you simply login to your account and remove your availability for that date. You can also make agreements with your students to postpone lessons and edit your schedule according to whatever is convenient for both of you.

Please note that we do not accept teachers who are available for less than 20 hours per week. Also, some schedules are too unstable to match our student's needs. For example, if you can only work Monday at 7am, Wednesday at 6pm and Saturday at midnight, we will probably not be able to find students to match that schedule. Therefore, it will not be possible for us to hire you.

The majority of our students are professionals ranging in age from 25-45. However, we also attract some students wishing to improve their English in hopes of studying overseas or becoming more marketable once they enter the workforce. Most have studied English during their academic careers, but lack proficient conversational skills.

Step-by-step:
1- Before the first lesson, you will recieve a short text written by the evaluator about the student. You will have to send a presentation email to the student.
2- During the first lesson, you will get acquainted with the student, ask him or her several questions about what he or she needs from the lessons, what he or she would like to work on (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, fluency...), if he or she would like to have “home work” and what he or she would like to talk about (news, business, finance, culture...)
3- Before the second lesson, you will send a text or a simple one line e-mail so that the student will know what the lesson will be about. You will have to prepare several questions about the topic.
4- During the lesson, you will ask your questions, carefully listen to the student, correct his or her mistakes and explain the correct rules of grammar to the student.
5- After the lesson, you will send the student a short “report” about the mistakes he or she made and what they should work on. You can also provide your students with grammar exercises from our database.

In addition, if you visit the the teacher's board, you will find a lot of topics and associated questions readily available.

Technical quality is as important as teaching quality. At Zamenhof.net, we want to maximize the learning experience for our clients. Therefore, hearing you clearly is of the utmost importance.

While online, every session must be treated as if you're going to a regular office. Therefore, audio and visual distraction must not interfere with the quality of the session.

No telephones, televisions, radios, loud fans, loud people (children, annoying significant others), cars on the street, or animals should be interfering with your lesson.

Teacher Requirements:
Complete mastery of the English language
Four-year University or College Degree
Energetic personality
Ability to SPEAK SLOWLY and explain things to people who can't speak ENGLISH!
Teaching experience preferred

Teachers are paid a base rate for each class attended and taught.
> The salary for group lesson is 15USD/50 minutes to start.
> The salary for specialized English is flexible depending on your course and your qualifications.
> The salary for Evaluation is $2 per evaluation and a bonus of $6 if the evaluation is turned into a sale.
>Note that a minimum of 3 months of Conversational English lessons is required before applying to the Group or Specialized English programs.

Raises are also possible depending on the rate of student's renewal.

We pay every Wednesday for the previous week via Paypal or Moneybookers.

Zamenhof.net is an American company. We are registered in the state of Nevada as “ESL Teacher Online LLC”.

The company was established in 2005 and works primarily with students in Russia. However, since 2007, we have begun expanding our operations and we now have a presence in Italy, France and Canada (Quebec).

> We reserve the right to cancel a lesson up to 12 hours before it is scheduled to take place without payment – if we cancel the lesson less than 12 hours before it is scheduled to take place however, you will be paid for that lesson.
